Diehl Mortgage Training and Compliance Offering: 8 hours
Seat Time: The NMLS requires that all students spend a minimum amount of seat time engaged in the course content. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.

Final Exams: Final exams must be passed with at least a 70% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.
Certificates: Upon completion of the course, Diehl Mortgage Training and Compliance will provide students with an electronic Certificate of Completion. Please refer to your license renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate of Completion with your license renewal request. Course completion dates are recorded using Eastern Standard Time. Please note that the date of your Certificate of Completion will reflect this.
Indiana Continuing
Education (CE) FAQs
Indiana DFI MLO continuing education requirements state that every state-licensed MLO must complete at least 8 hours of NMLS Continuing Education annually starting the year in which they are licensed. Annual Indiana DFI NMLS Continuing education consists of:
- Three hours of Federal Law
- Two hours of Ethics
- Two hours of non-traditional mortgage lending
- One hour of electives

If your NMLS license expires in Indiana, it means that you were inactive for at least five consecutive years, and you’ll be required to retake your NMLS exam to re-enter the mortgage industry. Indiana DFI mortgage license renewal and activation is easy once you’ve taken and passed the necessary tests and/or Indiana DFI CE courses.
If your license is not expired, but you missed the renewal deadline or didn’t meet the Indiana DFI continuing education requirements, your license will be put on an inactive status until you renew it during the next renewal period and after completing your NMLS continuing education requirements.
According to NMLS, the deadlines to complete CE are:
- SMART Renewal Deadline: CE course reported to NMLS by Friday, December 10
- At-Risk-to-Miss Renewal Deadline: Course reported to NMLS by Friday, December 17
- Guaranteed to Miss Renewal Deadline: Course reported to NMLS on Friday, December 31
CE must be completed by December 31st. MLOs with Indiana-DFI, on the other hand, are unable to renew their license unless they have completed CE. Because it might take up to seven (7) days for a course provider to report a course completion to NMLS, MLOs are highly advised not to leave it until the last minute to complete CE, or they risk being unable to renew their license.
To renew your expired NMLS license in Indiana, depending on how long it’s been, you may need Late CE. Contacting us or the NMLS will help you identify your specific needs.
The 20-hour course does expire in Indiana after a period of five years of inactivity. For example, if you took the test and passed but did not obtain your license after five years, you will have to retake your test again to get licensed. Diehl Education offers both NMLS Test Prep for those who need to retake the test and those who want additional MLO state licenses.
