Indiana Requirement Details for Mortgage Loan Originator Continuing Education

Diehl Mortgage Training and Compliance is an NMLS-approved provider for continuing education in Indiana.

Continuing Education and License Renewal Date: 12/31 annually

Hours Required by The State: 8 hours per year

Seat Time: The NMLS  requires that all students spend a minimum amount of seat time engaged in the course content. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.

Reporting: Course completions are reported to the NMLS. The state requires schools to report course completions within seven days from the course completion date. Course completions will be reported within this time frame and often within 48-72 business hours. Contact us for rush handling.

Final Exams: Final exams must be passed with at least a 70% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.

Certificates: Upon completion of the course, Diehl Mortgage Training and Compliance will provide students with an electronic Certificate of Completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies. Please refer to your license renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate of Completion with your license renewal request. Course completion dates are recorded using Eastern Standard Time. Please note that the date of your Certificate of Completion will reflect this.

What are Indiana SOS requirements for MLO Continuing Education?

NMLS Indiana SOS State Licensing Requirements state that state-licensed MLOs must complete at least 8 hours of Indiana SOS MLO continuing education annually. Indiana SOS CE courses must include: 

  • Three hours of Federal Law
  • Two hours of Ethics
  • Two hours of non-traditional mortgage lending
  • One hour of electives

NMLS Continuing Education Requirements for beginning your Indiana SOS NMLS continuing education are required by state law. Along with satisfying the 8 hours of CE, Indiana MLOs must comply with the SAFE Act’s Successive Years Policy, which states that MLOs are prohibited from taking the same CE courses for two consecutive years.

What happens if my NMLS license expires in Indiana SOS?

Before your license expires in Indiana, NMLS will send you a letter letting you know how long you have until it does so that you can take the necessary actions. To avoid having your MLO license expire, you must follow the Indiana SOS MLO Continuing Education requirements. 

 

If you were required to take Indiana SOS NMLS continuing education and did not, you can complete Late CE from Diehl Education to satisfy the Indiana SOS continuing education requirements. If you are returning to the mortgage industry after having an inactive license for a period of five or more years, you’ll need to satisfy any and all CE deficiencies for the last year(s) that you were licensed to reactivate your license. You may also have to take your NMLS exam again. 

What is the deadline to complete CE in Indiana SOS?

Your deadlines to complete Indiana NMLS Continuing Education are as follows:

  • SMART Renewal Deadline: December 10
  • At-Risk Deadline: December 17
  • Guaranteed Missed Deadline: December 31

 

After you’ve completed your course, it takes time for the NMLS database to update your information. Use these deadlines to remind yourself when to have your coursework completed for your best chances of renewal approval. The best thing you can do is make sure that you complete your continuing education by December 17 at the latest. There are no guarantees when your information is updated in the database, so the earlier, the better.
