South Carolina DCA Requirement Details for Mortgage Loan Originator Continuing Education

Diehl Mortgage Training and Compliance is an NMLS-approved provider for continuing education in South Carolina.

Continuing Education and License Renewal Date: 11/30 annually

Hours Required by The State: 8 hours per year

Seat Time: The NMLS  requires that all students spend a minimum amount of seat time engaged in the course content. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.

Reporting: Course completions are reported to the NMLS. The state requires schools to report course completions within seven days from the course completion date. Course completions will be reported within this time frame and often within 48-72 business hours. Contact us for rush handling.

Final Exams: Final exams must be passed with at least a 70% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.

Certificates: Upon completion of the course, Diehl Mortgage Training and Compliance will provide students with an electronic Certificate of Completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies. Please refer to your license renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate of Completion with your license renewal request. Course completion dates are recorded using Eastern Standard Time. Please note that the date of your Certificate of Completion will reflect this.

What are the South Carolina DCA MLO Continuing Education requirements?

The NMLS Continuing Education Requirements for North Carolina licensed MLOs state that every MLO is required to complete 8 hours minimum continuing education starting the year they are licensed. These South Carolina DCA NMLS continuing education should include: 

  • Three hours of Federal law
  • Two hours of Ethics
  • Two hours non-traditional mortgage lending
  • One hour of SC-DCA-specific education

The NMLS South Carolina DCA State Licensing Requirements state that along with 8 hours of continuing education, MLOs may not take the same continuing education courses two years in a row. 

 

To ensure that your license does not become expired, make sure that you continue to take CE annually after obtaining your initial license. You are not required to take CE the same year that you took PE and obtained your license.

What happens if my NMLS license expires in South Carolina DCA?

If your NMLS license expires in South Carolina, you will be subject to reinstatement. If you must apply for reinstatement, you only have between January 2 and February 28. Otherwise, you will not be able to reinstate your license for an active registration status. 


If you haven’t yet met the South Carolina DCA continuing education requirements, you must do that before applying for reinstatement. You can take a Diehl Education Late CE to make up any continuing education requirements that you might have missed. If you plan on remaining in the mortgage industry, it’s always best to avoid letting your license expire.

What is the deadline to complete CE in South Carolina DCA?

The deadline to complete your CE for South Carolina DCA is November 30. However, you may not apply to renew your license until your NMLS continuing education is completed, so it’s best to get it done sooner rather than later. Most providers can take as long as seven days to report your course completion to NMLS. Diehl Education, however, reports your course completion within 24-48 business hours. 

 

Even though we report your completion almost immediately, it still might take time for the NMLS database to update, so make sure that you finish your South Carolina DCA CE courses before the deadline to ensure your license renewal.
