What are Kentucky’s requirements for MLO Continuing Education?

Each year, MLOs must complete a minimum of 8 hours of Kentucky MLO Continuing Education courses in order to maintain their license. Continuing Education consists of:

  • 3 hours of Federal Law
  • 2 hours of Ethics
  • 2 hours of Non-Traditional Mortgage Lending
  • 1 hour of State-Specific Kentucky Education

For more information, please read the
NMLS Kentucky MLO License Description

How do I contact Kentucky Mortgage Licensing?

To contact the Kentucky Office of Financial Institutions:

What happens if my NMLS license expires in Kentucky?

If your NMLS license has expired in Kentucky, it means that you did not renew. To maintain an active license every year, you must complete your Kentucky MLO Continuing Education and renew your license on time.

If you don’t renew on time, you’ll need to take a Late CE course. After five years of being inactive, you’ll have to retake the national NMLS / SAFE MLO Test before you can have an active license and originate again.

What is the deadline to complete CE in Kentucky?

The deadline to complete Kentucky MLO Continuing Education is December 31. However, this is also the deadline for your Kentucky Mortgage License renewal application. CE course providers are required to submit course completion records within seven days, so the NMLS provides three renewal dates to ensure MLOs meet the deadline:

  • SMART Renewal Deadline: December 10
  • At-Risk Deadline: December 17
  • Guaranteed Missed Deadline: December 31

If your coursework is submitted on December 31, you will miss your deadline. Aim to have your CE completed by December 10 to ensure that you don’t miss your deadline.

How does Diehl help MLO’s prepare for mortgage license renewal?
