Massachusetts Requirement Details for Mortgage Loan Originator Continuing Education
Diehl Mortgage Training and Compliance is an NMLS-approved provider for continuing education in Massachusetts.
Continuing Education and License Renewal Date: 12/31 annually
Hours Required by The State: 8 hours per year

Seat Time: The NMLS requires that all students spend a minimum amount of seat time engaged in the course content. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.
Reporting: Course completions are reported to the NMLS. The state requires schools to report course completions within seven days from the course completion date. Course completions will be reported within this time frame and often within 48-72 business hours. Contact us for rush handling.
Final Exams: Final exams must be passed with at least a 70% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.
Certificates: Upon completion of the course, Diehl Mortgage Training and Compliance will provide students with an electronic Certificate of Completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies. Please refer to your license renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate of Completion with your license renewal request. Course completion dates are recorded using Eastern Standard Time. Please note that the date of your Certificate of Completion will reflect this.

Education (CE) FAQs
The NMLS Continuing Education Requirements for Massachusetts mortgage license renewal state that every state-licensed MLO must take 8 hours of Massachusetts MLO Continuing Education annually. Continuing Education courses required in Massachusetts include:
- 3 hours of Federal Law
- 2 hours of Ethics
- 2 hours of Non-Traditional Mortgage Lending
- 1 hour of State-Specific Massachusetts MLO Continuing Education
MLOs are required to take Massachusetts MLO Continuing Education if they became PE-compliant the prior year. They are not required to take NMLS Continuing Education if they became compliant for PE and were approved for original licensure in the same year. For example, if you were approved for your original license this year, you are not required to take Massachusetts CE courses.

To ensure that your license doesn’t expire, make sure that you maintain an active status by completing the NMLS Online Continuing Education requirements each year. If you missed the deadline, you’ll be required to take a Late CE Course and ask that your CE course provider sends it to NMLS as soon as possible. Diehl Education reports your course completion within 48 business hours to ensure your MLO renewal process moves along as efficiently as possible.
According to the SAFE ACT, MLOs who do not maintain a valid license for five consecutive years will be required to retake the SAFE MLO Test to reinstate their license. Make sure that you use a test prep tool like Prep2Pass® to determine whether or not you’re ready for taking the SAFE MLO Test.
MLOs with expired licenses are also required to take one or more Late CE Courses to catch up on CE that they missed. In order to keep your license valid, you must complete CE annually and on time. By missing the deadline, your license will become inactive and you will be required to complete Late CE.
After your license expires (the last day of February), you must restart the licensing process from the beginning. See the NMLS site for full details and for any questions about how to renew an expired NMLS license, contact the NMLS Call Center at 855-665-7123.
The deadline to complete your Massachusetts NMLS Continuing Education is the same deadline for renewing your license. However, don’t think that you can complete your Continuing Education the same day you can attempt to renew your license. It can take a CE course provider up to seven days to send records of your course completion to NMLS, so it’s important that you finish your requirements early. Use these deadlines published by the NMLS to ensure you can renew your license on time.

- Guaranteed Missed Deadline: December 31
