Diehl’s 1 hour California SAFE CE course reviews key elements of California state law around mortgage financing and updates. You will learn about licensing renewal requirements and important regulations including those specific to California licensees.This course covers the rules established for mortgage professionals defined by the California Residential Mortgage LendingAct, Financing Law, Consumer Protection Law, Finance Lenders Law, the Homeowner Bill of Rights and finally the Fair Access to Credit Act. The course is delivered in 3 modules with full audio and video. Required quizzes follow each module and there is a case study and final exam as well. Format
Online Self-Study. This course must be taken from a desktop or laptop computer. The use of mobile devices or tablets is not permitted by the NMLS.
Continuing Education Requirements
Every state-licensed MLO (in any approved status) is required to complete at least 8 hours of NMLS approved education annually beginning the year they are licensed (unless PE was completed in the same year). Annual CE education must include:
- 3 Hours of Federal Law
- 2 Hours of Ethics (which shall include fraud, consumer protection, and fair lending issues)
- 2 Hours of Non-Traditional Mortgage Lending
- 1 Additional Hour of CA-DFPI Specific Education (referred to as an elective).
Number of hours is 3/2/2/ + 1 hour of agency law = 8
MLOs are advised that to comply with the SAFE Act’s “successive years” rule, they may not take the same CE course two years in a row. MLO’s are advised not to retake pre-licensure education (PE) unless directed to by a State Regulator. PE education does not count towards meeting annual CE requirements.
